Automakers Report Year-Over-Year Increase in November Sales

Subaru and Hyundai both reported their 16th consecutive month of increased sales.

Automakers on Dec. 1 began releasing sales results for November 2023, showing an increase over the same month in 2022.

Subaru

Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) reported 16 consecutive months of increased sales with 53,327 vehicles sold for November 2023, a 6.4% increase compared with November 2022 (50,138). SOA also reported year-to-date sales of 574,322, a 14.9% increase compared with the same period in 2022.

Crosstrek achieved its best November ever with sales of 14,994. Forester remained the top performer by volume for the fifth month in a row with 15,089 vehicle sales and an increase of 64% over the same month in 2022. Outback sales also remained strong with 12,233 vehicles sold in November.

Mazda

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) reported total November sales of 27,715 vehicles, an increase of 3% compared to November 2022. Year-to-date sales totaled 323,836 vehicles, an increase of 21% compared to the same time last year. With 25 selling days in November, compared to the same the year prior, the company posted an increase of 3% on a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis.

CPO sales totaled 4,677 vehicles in November, an increase of 8% compared to November 2022.

Kia

Kia America announced best-ever November sales of 58,338 units, an increase of 3% over the same period last year. The record month propelled Kia past its previous record for total annual U.S. sales in under 11 months---with 722,176 vehicles sold with one month remaining in 2023---and marked the brand's 16th consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth.

Total retail sales in November increased over the previous year with 54,547 units sold through Kia dealers, and total year-to-date retail sales increased 12% over the first 11 months of 2022. Kia's EV models saw a year-over-year increase of 120% with EV6 sales surging by 101% compared to the same month last year. And Kia's EV9 reservation program has received deposits from customers in every one of the 50 U.S. states.

In November, seven models, including Carnival (+202%); EV6 (+101%); K5 (+13%); Sportage (+4%); Seltos (+3%); Telluride (+3%) and Forte (+1%) recorded increased sales compared to the same month the previous year. Kia's SUV lineup accounted for 71% of November sales and sales of Kia's electrified models increased 45% over the same period last year.

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor America reported best-ever total November sales of 70,079 units, an 11% increase compared with November 2022. This is the 16th month in a row Hyundai has seen increases in total sales. Hyundai set total sales records in November for IONIQ 5 (+99%), Santa Fe (+6%), Santa Fe HEV (+236%), Tucson (+36%) Tucson PHEV (+532%) and Palisade (+59%). All-time total sales records were set for Tucson and Santa Fe HEV.

Hyundai sold 58,027 retail units in November, a 3% year-over-year increase from November 2022. November retail sales were led by IONIQ 5, Santa Fe HEV, Tucson, Palisade and Kona. Hyundai eco-friendly vehicle sales of 10,695 represented a 42% year-over-year increase. SUVs represented 82% of the retail sales mix.
