Hyundai and Kia on July 31 notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) they are recalling about 92,000 vehicles because the electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly may contain damaged electrical components that can cause the pump controller to overheat.
The automakers said if the electric oil pump assembly overheats, it increases the risk of a vehicle fire, and advised owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.
Dealers will inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller, as necessary, free of charge.
The effected vehicles include:
- 2023 Hyundai Elantra
- 2023 Hyundai Kona
- 2023-2024 Hyundai Palisade
- 2023 Hyundai Sonata
- 2023 Hyundai Tucson
- 2023-2024 Kia Seltos
- 2023 Kia Soul
- 2023 Kia Sportage

Kia expects to mail owners notification letters Sept. 28, 2023. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC275.
