Michigan Dealerships Lose Nearly Entire Inventory Due to Baseball-Sized Hail

Hank Graff Chevrolet in Davison, MI, shared this photo of hail that hits its dealership lot July 20.

Powerful storms pounded Michigan on July 20 and left a trail of destruction.

Most of the damage was caused by hail. The Detroit Free Press spoke to National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Considine, who said the Davison area was among the hardest hit as “tennis ball- and baseball-sized hail rained down.”

Hail that size can be deadly and it resulted in extensive damage, particularly to dealerships that had countless vehicles on their lots. Among the hardest hit was Todd Wenzel Buick GMC of Davison, which posted on Facebook, “We have sustained damage to a large portion of our inventory and our building.” The dealership added it's open for business, but asked “that you please have patience with us as we take steps to repair the damage.”

Nearby Hank Graff Chevrolet was also hit, and posted photos on social media of hail roughly the size of a baseball, saying, “Our business, along with many of our friends in the Davison community endured quite the hail storm. While we sustained damage to some buildings and a large number of our inventory, we are open for our normal business hours across all departments.”
