MotorTrend Group, a Warner Bros. Discovery company, on March 8 announced the launch of a complete Buyer’s Guide to help shoppers research and purchase new and used cars, now including new data based on the recent winners of the brand’s esteemed Ultimate Car Rankings™.

MotorTrend’s 75 years of editorial expertise has been combined with quantitative insights from vehicle testing to rank the best cars in each category based on driving experience, safety, efficiency, technology, resale value and design. These elements are part of the proprietary algorithm that underpins the Ultimate Car Rankings. With these rankings, the Buyer’s Guide now presents the pinnacle of automotive knowledge to empower consumers.

New cars that received the honor of topping the Ultimate Car Rankings list include: BMW X1 as top Luxury Subcompact SUV, Jeep Grand Wagoneer as top Luxury Full-Size 3-Row SUV, and Lucid Air as top Electric Luxury Car.

“The MotorTrend’s Buyer’s Guide is easy to use, comprehensive and highly detailed, offering shoppers a one-stop solution for determining what they want in their next car,” said Alex Wellen, global president and general manager, MotorTrend Group. “Not only can we tell shoppers what the best SUVs are, but we’ll tell you the best three-row SUVs and the best electric SUVs. The collective knowledge of our editorial team has been woven into our powerful digital platform to pair unbiased and trusted reviews with details on over 47,000 vehicles. Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or a first-time car shopper, our Buyer’s Guide instills confidence with its user-friendly nature and its newly updated Ultimate Car Rankings to empower consumers.”

The Ultimate Car Rankings system is the only one of its kind with built-in IntelliChoice long-term value analysis. The experts at IntelliChoice analyze thousands of models every year down to the trim, on factors like five-year resale value, maintenance costs, insurance costs and more. All this expertise is incorporated into the rankings criteria, heavily influenced by MotorTrend’s flagship Car, Truck and SUV of the Year competitions.

The Ultimate Car Rankings system recognizes one-size-fits-all rankings systems don't make sense---buyers of small sedans and three-row luxury SUVs don't have the same priorities. MotorTrend takes a consumer-first approach and thoughtfully covers nearly 50 segments across the industry.

“MotorTrend ranks No. 1 among buyers with intent to purchase in six and 12 months,” said Ed Loh, MotorTrend Group head of editorial. “Whether a prospective buyer is just starting their journey or ready to find a dealer, the MotorTrend Buyer’s Guide is designed with easy-to-use tools, based on thousands of hours testing new cars. We’ve been helping people find their next car for 75 years and the MotorTrend’s Buyer’s Guide is the culmination of our expertise.”

In addition to the Ultimate Car Rankings update, the MotorTrend Buyer’s Guide is the premier site for consumers to explore vehicle options with Car Match and Car Compare. Car Match is a fun, intuitive wizard that asks users to answer six simple questions to determine which vehicle is the best fit for their particular likes and needs. After consumers make selections on body style, electric car interest, AWD availability and more, MotorTrend’s Car Match computes that data and provides a suggestion that is their true “Car Match.”

Car Compare allows shoppers to line up vehicles side by side down to the trim, to evaluate their options, highlighting MotorTrend’s expert opinion along with price, specs, photos and videos. Shoppers can also explore popular comparisons to see which vehicles on the market might be of interest.

To complement this suite of tools, MotorTrend also announced March 8 a new series of in-market videos that delivers shoppers detailed vehicle reviews on any device. The videos come in four categories: First Look, First Drive, First Test and Comparison Test. The short form content is available in both MotorTrend’s Buyer’s Guide and MotorTrend’s editorial reviews.

The initial First Drive review video features Ferrari’s new SUV, and can be viewed now, here. The First Test review featuring the Kia EV6 can be found here.
