Nikola has joined forces with FirstElement Fuel (FEF) to spearhead the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. The landmark 10-year agreement paves the way for Nikola's hydrogen fuel cell electric truck to use FEF's hydrogen refueling station in Oakland, CA.

Under this strategic partnership, Nikola's customers gain access to FEF's pioneering fueling services at its new multi-use heavy-duty truck station. Located strategically near the Oakland port, the station is designed to fuel approximately 200 trucks daily. It also features the world's first heavy-duty truck H70 fast-fill lane, enhancing the efficiency of hydrogen refueling. This collaboration aligns with Nikola's strategy of deploying zero-emissions trucks in maritime port areas across California.

"FirstElement Fuel is a recognized leader in hydrogen vehicle fueling in California, and the Nikola team is inspired by the immense possibilities created by this agreement," said Joe Cappello, Nikola's president of energy.

Nikola has outlined plans to establish up to 60 stations in the coming years, using various approaches, including mobile and permanent HYLA branded stations, customer-owned stations and partnerships with public truck stops.

"This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to transform the transportation industry and we are proud to play a role in powering Nikola's innovative hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks," said Joel Ewanick, founder and executive chairman of FEF.

California is making efforts to reduce carbon emissions, particularly in high-traffic ports. FEF is currently installing several hydrogen refueling stations designed for fast-filling Class 8 trucks.

Nikola's broader strategy includes developing a series of new hydrogen fueling locations under the HYLA brand across Southern and Northern California. These stations, supplemented by a network of hydrogen fueling solution partners, will facilitate the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and contribute to the decarbonization of transportation.
