The Finland-based company can now start production at its first facility in North America.

Kempower, a designer and manufacturer of DC fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles, announced it received Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) certification from Intertek Testing Laboratories, allowing for production to begin at its new production facility in Durham, NC.

“This is a major milestone for our company, specifically for production that can now officially take place here at our production site in Durham,” said Tim Joyce, president of Kempower North America. “ETL certification gives Kempower authorization to produce and ship complete charging stations from our new facility, opening a door for large-scale mass production and distribution."

The ETL Listed Marking is a certified indicator to customers, including but not limited to retailers and distributors, that Kempower’s long-awaited satellites have been tested by Intertek and found to be in compliance with accepted national standards, and now can be also produced and delivered from Kempower Durham facility.

“This clearly cements Kempower fast-charging DC satellites as a top choice for chargers. This seal is an indicator that in fact, Kempower products are safe to sell all across North America,” said Joyce.

“Now that the ETL certification is in place, we are preparing for an influx in preorders for 2024 as we increase our product availability, with a target to match current production levels at our flagship headquarters in Lahti, Finland, from which Kempower delivered approximately 10,000 charging points in 2022,” said Marcus Suvanto, director of operations and business development, Kempower North America.

Kempower established its North America site in Durham in the spring of this year, and is on schedule to produce NEVI compliant DC fast-charging units. The manufacturing site is facilitated, in part, by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) approved by North Carolina’s Economic Investment Committee.

“We are thankful to our current customers around the globe who have been receiving shipments from our headquarters in Finland allowing us to tailor to their specific fast-charging DC satellite needs; now we can duplicate this high-level of production and service to new customers who choose to partner with us to speed up the electric evolution,” said Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower.
