The automakers join several others who have announced this year they will adopt Tesla's technology to give their customers access to its Supercharger network.

Subaru of America, Inc., and Lucid Group both recently announced they are the latest automakers to agree to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) for their EVs, giving their customers access to Tesla’s extensive charging network.

Both Subaru and Lucid plan to offer the NACS technology starting in the 2025 model year, as well as an adapter to owners of its current EVs, which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) plugs.

The collaboration will significantly enhance the charging infrastructure for Subaru and Lucid EV owners across North America, providing access to Tesla's Supercharger network, which comprises more than 15,000 charging stations.

Subaru and Lucid join several other automakers who have announced this year their adoption of Tesla’s technology, beginning with Ford in June. Since then, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia and more have also said they will do so.

Subaru said the move aligns with its commitment to sustainability, as it strives to make 50% of its total global sales BEVs by 2030.

"Adopting NACS is an important next step to providing our customers with expanded access to reliable and convenient charging solutions for their Lucid vehicles," said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO at Lucid. "We believe that a unified charging standard, backed by the nationwide rollout of future-ready higher-voltage charging stations, will be a critical step in empowering American consumers to adopt electric vehicles."
