Tesla wants to set up a collision repair shop on Shore Drive in Burr Ridge, IL.
Its proposal is undergoing the village's zoning process.
In its proposal, the company said it aims to fully redesign the 41,000-square foot building at 311 Shore Drive. It is requesting a special use permit.
The repair shop is expected to employ 35 to 45 employees. Tesla projects the shop would see five to 15 appointment customers a day.
Under its zoning process, the village asks applicants whether the proposed use provides an opportunity that is otherwise unavailable in the village.
Tesla responded the world is transitioning to electric cars.
"Electric vehicles present unique repair challenges when they have been involved in a collision," the firm said. "For this reason, Tesla is proposing a collision repair center on the subject property to provide repair and replacement services for its vehicles in the Western suburbs."
