Toyota announced Dec. 20 it will recall 1.12 million vehicles worldwide---most of which are in the U.S.---because an airbag sensor could short circuit, causing the airbag to fail to deploy when appropriate.
As reported by Reuters, the Japanese automaker is recalling various model year 2020 to 2022 Avalon, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Lexus ES250, ES300H, ES350, RX350 Highlander and Sienna Hybrid vehicles.
The sensors in question prevent front passenger airbags from deploying if a child or small adult is detected in the seat.
Toyota said it will begin notifying affected owners in February. Dealerships will inspect and replace the sensors.
