President Shawn Fain said the strike, now nearing the one-month mark, will call on members to walk out of additional plants without warning.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) union on Oct. 13 did not expand its strike against the Big Three, but UAW President Shawn Fain warned its strategy is shifting going forward.
In a Facebook Live event, Fain said the union will now call for members to walk out of additional plants without warning, rather than announcing expansions every Friday.
The union deployed the new strategy two days before, when on Oct. 11, 8,700 workers suddenly walked out of Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant, where the automaker builds its heavy duty F-series pickups and full-size SUVs.
“We’re entering a new phase of this fight and it demands a new approach,” Fain said. "We're not waiting until Fridays anymore. Now there's only one rule---pony up."
Oct. 13 marked the end of the fourth week of the UAW’s Stand Up strike again Ford, Stellantis and GM. There are currently 34,000 workers on strike at 44 facilities across the U.S.
Both the UAW and all three automakers said negotiations are still ongoing.
