Voting on ratification of all three Detroit automakers' contracts with UAW workers closes at 4 p.m. ET Nov. 16.
GM’s proposed labor contract with its UAW-represented employees moved closer to approval Nov. 15, as more than 60% of union members at its Arlington Assembly plant in Texas voted to ratify it, Reuters reported.
The union is currently holding votes on all three contracts it struck in late October with GM, Ford and Stellantis. Only GM’s is too close to comfortably call as the voting deadline approaches, 4 p.m. ET Nov. 16.
A UAW vote tracker shows currently, 54% of GM union workers have voted in favor of the proposed contract, while 46% have voted against it. About 15,000 of a total of 46,000 union-represented employees of the automaker still have to cast their vote.
At the same point, about 66% of Ford workers and 72% of Stellantis workers have voted to approve their contracts.
Arlington Assembly is GM’s largest and most profitable plant, producing its full-size SUVs. About 5,000 workers there joined the UAW’s Stand Up Strike on Oct. 24; the tentative deal was reached less than a week later, ending the six-week strike.
